Dairy Free Instant Pot Hot Chocolate
This Instant Pot Hot Chocolate is a delectable dairy free treat that tastes just like the stuff you get from your local coffee shop!
Drinking homemade hot cocoa while we put up our Christmas tree is a sweet tradition we started when my oldest was born. A couple years ago when we decided to go dairy free I was worried that we’d have to say goodbye to some of our most treasured traditions as well. I was over the moon when I perfected this recipe and knew I had to share it for the world to enjoy!
One of the most difficult things to do when changing eating habits was telling my kiddos that they can no longer have something they enjoy eating. So instead of cutting certain treats completely out of our diet, I began substituting things for healthier options. We’ve weeded out our biggest triggers (wheat and dairy) and continue to have treats like this in moderation. Moderation is key when it comes to indulging so always keep this in mind.
I choose to make this Hot Chocolate in our Instant Pot instead of on the stove top because it only takes 30 minutes start to finish and I don’t have to keep my eyes on it. I just throw all the ingredients inside of the pot, set the time, and let it go. It is beyond simple!
I would recommend sharing this and taking to all the holiday events you have. This is a treat you’ll want to share with everyone and a recipe that everyone will be wanting.
Enjoy this cocoa with a grain free sugar cookie!

Looks great! What sweetener do you typically use?
Agave but a lot of people don’t like to use that one because it mimics regular cane sugar. 🙂
What’s the best kind of sweetener to use ?
I used agave but a lot of people don’t like that one because it acts just like sugar in the body. You can use date paste, honey, pure maple syrup, stevia, organic cane sugar, any of them will do the trick. 🙂
Can you double this recipe? Are there any changes to the recipe if you do?
Yes and no. 🙂
Can you double this recipe ?
Yes, or triple or quadruple, I’m betting. 🙂
Don’t all sweeteners, artificial and natural, react/act the same way in the body?
No, not at all. It’s very interesting research. 🙂
Not to sound like a grouch (as I really enjoy and appreciate your site); but this would be easier (to clean up) in a small pot or scale it down directly into the cup vs. cleaning out your bulky instant pot.
Hi Chris, Thank you so much. It’s super easy to clean. I transfer the cocoa to mugs and use my kitchen sprayer to spray out the liner and it comes right out. 🙂 Though you could use a pot in pot method, I don’t see why not.
I have two Instant Pots and I’ve run them through my dishwasher for years without any issues. I put the lid on the top rack and the liner on the bottom. Clean up is a breeze!
Do you have to use chocolate chips? Just realized I’m out!
