In October of last year my healthy habits got turn In October of last year my healthy habits got turned upside down. I stopped working out, I went back to more of a processed food diet, and I indulged in all of the holiday season treats.

I gained 20 pounds, which might seem like a lot to some people, but after you lose large amounts of weight your body tends to regain quicker.

In January I quickly dropped 8 pounds after getting back into the swing of things. After that things just kinda stalled. I was doing everything right but my body did not want to budge past 148, which is not a comfortable weight for me.

I consulted with a lymphatic specialist because I was having issues with swelling. She told me my body was storing crazy amounts of water in my tissues and she wasn’t entirely sure why. I sought out a Functional Medicine Doctor and we ran a bunch of tests (stool and blood) and discovered that I had a very low iron and ferritin count along with having hypothyroid numbers again. She told me that this was 100% the reason why I was unable to lose and also why my tissues were holding water.

I began a protocol that she created for me consisting of herbal tincture, vitamins, and tonics. In addition I’ve been focusing on eating foods rich in selenium, Thyrosine, iodine, iron, copper, retinol, ferritin, and retinol. It has been two weeks and my body has released 4 pounds after 5 months of being unable to lose. I’ve lost 14 pounds since January 1st.

If your body is not able to release weight and you are doing everything right, there might be an underlying reason! Eating less and exercising more is not always the answer. ❤️ Partnering with a good physician who is willing to dig into the problem and not just write a prescription is key.

Once I began to let go of all of the things that i Once I began to let go of all of the things that impede love in my life; negative self talk, worry about how others perceive me, not being honest about the things I wanted and needed, saying “yes” when I really wanted to say “no”, not having clear boundaries, unrealistic expectations, I could go on...⁣⁣
⁣
I began to unwrite every past misdeed I allowed to flourish against myself and as I emerged from this place, I was changed. I began to listen to myself, body and soul, and take action because I believe in the power of my value.
⁣
If we focus on medicating the symptoms we will never be well. It is time to focus on eradicating the problem.
My nutritional intake was always at the whim of my My nutritional intake was always at the whim of my emotions and my emotions never really wanted spinach or kale. Feeding my emotions never helped and usually resulted in feeling more depressed, exhausted, and upset. ⁣
⁣
Rationally I knew my patterns and behaviors were unhealthy but I didn’t know how to fix them. ⁣
⁣
Breaking food addiction looks different for everyone, but this what it looked like for me. ⁣
⁣
I had to begin parenting myself. I had to think of my emotions as if they were a child. When my emotions would kick and scream about the junk it needed to fix whatever emotional problem I was feeling I had to learn to say “no, that might be what you want, but this is what’s best.”⁣
⁣
I stopped turning to food to solve my problems. I began to pray, seek council, and talk about what I was feeling instead of trying to bury it. ⁣
⁣
Like with my own children, I don’t set boundaries because I hate them, I do it because I love them. I can see what’s best for them even when they can’t.⁣
⁣
I knew if I could learn to let my rational self win some of these emotional battles I’d be on a much healthier path.⁣
⁣
Practically, part of building boundaries meant getting rid of triggers. Foods that triggered my overeating tendencies had to go until I figured out what a proper portion looked like and how to properly manage my hunger. ⁣
⁣
I had to start respecting my body by feeding it when it was hungry and stopping when it signaled full. ⁣
⁣
I had to retrain my palate. You crave what you train yourself to crave. If you live on a steady diet of wine and pizza, that’s what you’re going to want.⁣
⁣
I replaced wine with sparkling water and Pizza Hut with homemade. Because I knew that realistically, if I tried to give up foods I love completely, I’d end up right back where I started. I had to find healthy replacements for the foods I loved so I never felt deprived or restricted. ⁣
⁣
And I had to extend grace, because Lord knows I haven’t ever been perfect, and this process was going to be just as messy as everything else in my life. ⁣
⁣
More than all of that, I had to figure out how to muster the love I have for my children and extend it toward myself.
I used to hate a lot of foods but nothing more tha I used to hate a lot of foods but nothing more than seafood. When I was a kid I refused to try it based on smell alone. As an adult I maintained the same attitude.

Over the last 5 years I’ve worked to introduce new *to me* foods into my diet, even ones that smell bad. I’ve been surprised to discover that there aren’t really any foods I hate just methods of preparation that I prefer!

Today I made and tasted scallops for the first time. I was super nervous to try them and I was convinced I was going to hate them… but they actually weren’t half bad!

To all of my picky eater friends, it takes time and tastebud adaption, but just because you have a food aversion now doesn’t mean it has to last forever. Go slow, be brave, and begin to experiment— you might be surprised to discover that you like a lot more things than you thought you did.

I’m not the smallest I’ve ever been or the big I’m not the smallest I’ve ever been or the biggest but I am the happiest.

I’ve learned that happiness is not dictated by body shape or size but is instead something we create for ourselves.

Tonight I toast to the in between. To where I’ve been, to where I’m going next, and to all the happiness I’ll create along the way. 💖
Brady almost died today. I couldn’t lift my su Brady almost died today.

I couldn’t lift my suitcase so I asked him to carry it down the stairs and load it. I reminded him several times as we both ran around loading things and getting the house ready to depart.

5 hours into our drive I asked, “you did load my suitcase, right?”

“Yeah, yeah, of course I did!” He reassured me and then paused… “At least I think that I did.” 🤔

“Oh my goodness Brady Williams, please tell me you did not forget my suitcase.”

A quick pit stop confirmed that my suitcase was not with us.

He wanted to turn around. I refused to add 10 hours to our drive and thought maybe I’d just fly back to get it. Then I remembered that there is a way to ship things without shipping people!🤣

So shout out to our neighbors Roxanne and Briane who ran my suitcase to UPS. And also to Rebecca at the UPS store who gave us a discount… Y’all saved a life today. 🤣🙏❤️
“I chased after an ideological image of myself f “I chased after an ideological image of myself for years in a relentless pursuit of being thin. If there was a diet, I tried it. A pill, I took it. But I was focusing on all the wrong things. My mind would tell me “if you were thin, you’d be happy.” But my mind was wrong.⁣
⁣
Healthy isn’t a size.⁣
⁣
Happiness isn’t a weight.⁣
⁣
My problem wasn’t that I was obese. That was just a symptom. My problem was that I didn’t hold myself in high enough regard. I didn’t assign enough value to my health and well-being. I gave my time, effort, and sanity to everyone around me, never prioritizing my own needs. Then, after I was beaten down, with nothing left and exhausted to the depths of my soul, I’d medicate myself with food.⁣
⁣
I had to surrender my right to be led by my desires and acknowledge that my desires don’t always have my best interests in mind. ⁣

If you, like me, have been chasing this version of yourself that you’ve never really been able to obtain, maybe it’s time to stop chasing. ⁣
⁣
Maybe it’s time to acknowledge that you’re perfectly enough right now, exactly as you are. Maybe it’s time to acknowledge that your issues aren’t because of a symptom but part of a bigger problem and you need to align yourself with the solution.”⁣
