Creamy Homemade Ranch Dressing

This healthy ranch dressing is so good, you’ll want to eat it by the spoonful!

Who is a Hidden Valley Ranch fan? Raise your hand! I’m a lover of all things ranch. Ranch on pizza, Cool Ranch Doritos, ranch roasted potatoes, ranch on french fries, burgers, chicken, salad. Just give me all the ranch things! Finding a healthy ranch dressing that tastes good can be difficult, which is why I started making my own!

A few years ago, when I started reading labels, I discovered that store bought ranch is usually full of all kinds of less than wonderful things. Because of this, I started making my own. My Aunt Kim had a recipe that she loved. This is a little spin on her recipe.

My kids would eat this with a spoon if I let them. It’s a great way to get raw veggies into your kiddos and it’s always a hit at parties. I always have a massive veggie platter at every gathering and this ranch dressing always draws a crowd!

Makes 1 1/4 cups
Print Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup mayo
  • 1/4 heaping cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine ground sea salt

Instructions

  • In a wide mouth mason jar combine all the ingredients. Use an immersion blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy.
If you do not have an immersion blender, any blender will do, a hand mixer will not work. The spices need to be blended.

Notes

Variations:
The recipe written above is best served as a dip for veggies. Add 2 tablespoons of almond or or your milk of choice to convert it into the perfect salad dressing!
For a delicious smoky variant, try blending in a chipotle pepper or two, for homemade Chipotle Ranch!
I make my mayo homemade, it's so easy! If choosing a store-bought mayo look for one with minimal ingredients, preferably without soybean or canola oil. Avocado oil mayo's are fabulous!

      1. Hi Brittany, im looking for the Cilantro Ranch Salad Dressing everyone is raving about. I couldn’t find it in the downloads or your cookbook. I hope We can find the motivation you’ve found soon. Thank you!

  1. Hi Brittany! I am so happy that I joined the Instant Pot fb page when I did because it was how I came across your blog and it is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I finally have ordered my Instant Pot and can’t wait to try your recipes, especially the zucchini spaghetti and refried beans. The boys in my house are big ranch dressing fans and I was wondering about how long this will last in the fridge in an air tight container? Thanks for doing what you do and keep up the good work!

  2. Is the parsley in this recipe dried or fresh? If it’s fresh can I sub for dry? It’s a lot easier to have dry on hand.

  3. Best ranch!!! I added green chile to mine after I blended it up its fresh and taste amazing seriously you could bottle this!!!

  4. We make this weekly!! I’m so picky about my ranch and this is amazing. I often add cilantro…or jalapeno! Ooooh my goodness! Love it.

    1. You can do 1 cup of mayo (I prefer Just Mayo to Veganaise these days) and use lemon juice , try 1-2 tsp to taste, add more if you like. The lemon juice mimics the flavor you’d get from sour cream or yogurt.

  5. I can’t wait to give this a try and see what my 6 yr old thinks.
I have a caesar salad dressing that I make that he absolutely LOVES!

  6. Finally tried this recipe and the whole family loves it! I had to take a spoon away from the three year old because he was eating it like soup. 🤣

  7. I want to make this. My husband is super picky. Do you think he will be able to tell it has almond milk in it? I suppose I could use regular milk. He would taste the Greek yogurt I’m afraid.

  8. My pickiest eater just tried this and said, “It tastes just like Chick-fil-a’s ranch.” Definitely a winner here! Thanks for this. All of this!

  9. This ranch is INSANELY good! Made it for the first time last night and this morning I overheard my teenage son bragging to his friends about it and how delicious he thought it was. The last bottle of store bought ranch WAS the last one!

  10. I’m not much of a fan of mayo in ranch anymore so I make a homemade dry mix and add sour cream and homemade kefir. However, it goes to waste a lot cuz kids don’t like it as much as I do. I decided to try your recipe and just tweek a little. I did sour cream, mayo and homemade kefir in place of almond milk. I also added some dill weed. Kids loved it!!😋
    Thank you!!

  11. Hi Brittany,
I’m curious. You said you’ve been dairy free for awhile now. Why did you go dairy free?
What benefits have you seen from that?

    1. Hi Misty, I reduced dairy at the beginning of my weightless journey because it is inflammatory properties, but as time went on I realized I began to reintroduce it back into my diet here and there I have come to realize I have dairy intolerance.

  12. 5 stars
I make this every single week, this is by far the most amazing tasting ranch dressing ever! I really was not a ranch fan to begin with but thought I would try this and it is absolutely superb!! I also prefer this recipe to the other one I believe in book 2 which uses avocado oil. This one wins hands-down!!!

  13. In the new book that came out in 2019 it says to use 3/4 cup of avocado oil? I made it and it was good but does not look like the pic above and had a more liquid like Consistency. Am I doing it wrong?
