I Want An Instant Pot! Which One Do I Buy?

I want an Instant Pot! Which one do I buy? instantloss.com

I have received a lot of questions about which Instant Pot is best! I wish I could respond to everyone individually, but for the sake of time I am going to post my answer here.

What Model?

The biggest difference between the 6in1 Instant Pot (the cheaper model) and the 7in1 is the yogurt making function. This comes in handy for making dairy and non-dairy yogurts alike. I absolutely believe this function is worth the extra cost so I do recommend the 7in1. If you do not want the yogurt making function the 6in1 will suffice.

Instant Pot DUO 6qt 7in1: http://amzn.to/2jDxNPA

There is also a 9in1 (I have this model as well), the Instant Pot Duo Plus. It has a couple additional functions (egg, sterilize, and cake) but I generally don’t feel like those functions are worth the extra cost as you can manually program your pot to do these things.

Instant Pot DUO PLUS 9in1: http://amzn.to/2nlnO6q

NOW if you want to get REALLY fancy! There is a 6quart 7in1 SMART BLUETOOTH Instant Pot that you can control with your phone.: http://amzn.to/2BBvd4v

AND

The 10in1 ULTRA Instant Pot has 21 preset temperatures, almost double what the other pots have, allows you to pressure cook for up to 6hours, and has a super swanky display panel: http://amzn.to/2zVIGH6

What Size?

There are three different size Instant Pots. There is a 3 quart, a 6 quart and an 8 quart.

Your families size and what you’re going to be making is going to dictate what size pot will work best for you!

The 3qt is best for singles and small side dishes. The 3qt is available as the 6in1 and the 7in1 with the yogurt making function.

3qt LUX 6in1: http://amzn.to/2jDay87
3qt DUO 7in1: http://amzn.to/2i5pmMl

The 6qt is the perfect size for families sizes 5 and under. It’s great for cooking pot roasts in the 2-4lb range and small chickens. If you like to cook pieces of meat that are larger you’ll want to consider the 8qt.

Instant Pot LUX 6qt 6in1: http://amzn.to/2jC0PPg
Instant Pot DUO 6qt 7in1: http://amzn.to/2jDxNPA

The 8qt is perfect for families sizes 6+. It’s handy for cooking double or triple batches and cooking larger pieces of meat. Because the 8qt has a larger surface area it takes longer for it to come to pressure, the only downside.

Instant Pot 6in1 8 quart: http://amzn.to/2jDcflR
Instant Pot 7in1 8 quart: http://amzn.to/2nlcGqf

My favorite pot is still the 6qt 7in1 Instant Pot: http://amzn.to/2zUfLDF

It’s the best pot for my family and what I use primarily. Feel free to ask questions or post your own opinions as I’m sure I’ve missed things!

Thank you, Brittany! Taylor and I are so inspired by you. So proud of your accomplishments. Taylor wants to begin a healthier lifestyle, as do I. You’re our inspiration.
We spent last evening pricing out Instant Pots at various stores around town. We were unsure which pot to buy. This info is very helpful. The 6 quart 7in1 it is!

Do all of them have the manual setting? I just purchased the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 Stainless Steel 6-Quart 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker.

I thought it was just like yours but I don’t have a manual button? Should I return it?

      Hi Stephanie,
Instant Pot just changed the name of the Manual button to Pressure Cook so all the new pots say Pressure Cook instead of Manual. 🙂 Same function, different name.

    Hello and Happy New Year!

How about the 5qt LUX? It’s much more affordable for our family but will it still work for your recipes? You’re an amazing, beautiful mom and so inspirational! 🙂

I want to be sure I understand your comment: “There is also a 9in1 (I have this model as well), the Instant Pot Duo Plus. It has a couple additional functions (egg, sterilize, and cake) but I generally don’t feel like those functions are worth the extra cost as you can manually program your pot to do these things.”
So you’re saying a 7in1 pot can be programmed to “(egg, sterilize, and cake)”?
I’m wondering if programming these function myself (in a 7in1) might even be *preferable since not all cakes are alike and could need different treatment / timing.
The appeal of “biggest and best” is strong, but being reasonable is also appealing…the older I get. haha. As long as there are recipes with sufficient instructions for programming a 7in1 to bake a cake, for example, I can be content.

    Hi, Brittany!
Just purchased your cookbook and the recipes look wonderful. I have the IP Ultra 6 quart model with the super swanky display. In many of your recipes, you say, “When the cooker beeps to let you know it’s finished, let it naturally come down from pressure until the display reads LO:10,” (or 20 or 30, etc.). What exactly does LO:whatever number mean? I don’t think my IP ever displays that particular message. I’ve only ever done quick release or natural release. Color me confused.
    Thanks,
    Shara

I have literally been praying for someone to come into my life that could teach me or just help! I truly believe that you’re that person.

Your group has come at such a good time for me. I just want to say thanks! I might not have lost any weight (yet) but you ‘live’ in our house. Mini muffins, lentil chili, those almond strawberry cookies… When my husband tells me how delicious these new recipes are the response is always, “Britt’s recipe!” I talk about you like we just went out for coffee Hahaha. I appreciate all the work you’re putting into your website and the fb group. I feel better about myself just being a part of it.

We got back home on Monday night and first thing T We got back home on Monday night and first thing Tuesday morning Brady and I got back to it. I’ve learned over the years that not leaving trip indulgences on the trip can be a slippery slope. As soon as we come back home it’s back to our normal grind.⁣
⁣
I ate gluten and dairy-full pizza, ate an ice cream cookie bar shaped like Mickey’s face, there was even a churro in there! In the midst of that most of my meals were still pretty healthy— I ate a taco bowl, a few salads, and tried to drink plenty of water. ⁣
⁣
I’ll be tracking again for a short time as we get back on track, I always do. I’ll post workouts and my food log in stories. If you’re curious to see one of my past back-on-tracks aka BOT, visit my October BOT highlight on Instagram. ⁣
⁣
It’s never too late to start again, you’ve just got to start. I’ve gotten back on track a million times, it doesn’t mean you can’t do it, it just means you’re as human as the rest of us! ❤️⁣
⁣
Warning: my first few days BOT are always lighter food days. I’m usually still feeling a bit overfull so I’m more light snacky. A few days in it always picks back up. These are not meal plans designed for you to follow. This is just what I’m doing and I’m being brutally honest while I do it. ⁣
⁣
Also, we have zero groceries, I’m having some delivered today since we are quarantined for two weeks post trip so today’s food should be more exciting than popcorn, Lentil Flatbread BLT’s, and leftover sweet potato crackers from trip. 🤣
3 1/2 years ago we flew to California to see if th 3 1/2 years ago we flew to California to see if the weather would help alleviate Aveys JRA. ⁣
⁣
Flying had always been an extremely uncomfortable experience for me. I was always too hot and I would have to hold myself very still so I didn’t rub the people beside me. My legs would spill under the armrests onto the other seats. I was always apologizing to those next to me because the seats were just too small. ⁣
⁣
There is a part of me that feels relieved now because my current body size is accommodated. I don’t have to squeeze myself through isles or wear the seatbelt on the largest setting, but I still carry frustration that plus sizes, though making up a large number of our populace, are not accommodated and experience embarrassment and shame while flying.⁣
⁣
So while this is a very real non-scale victory for me, I feel less joy and more motivation to continue to help push for inclusivity and comfort for all sizes. ❤️

I used to think that being smaller was impossible I used to think that being smaller was impossible for me.⁣
⁣
I used to blame my size on my bones, my upbringing, my DNA.⁣
⁣
Even when I wasn’t trying to lose weight, losing weight was always something in the back of mind looming over me. Like this big thing I needed to do but hadn’t checked off my to-do list yet.⁣
⁣
Sometimes it was all I could think about. ⁣
⁣
No one wanted to date me, even though I was a super cool, mega awesome chick. All of my friends had boyfriends and I literally only had boys that were friends. ⁣
⁣
I had back issues that my doctor wrote off as weight issues but they weren’t weight issues, they were actual issues caused by severe muscle separation. But my weight was always the answer.⁣
⁣
I found a different OB after I gave birth to Avey because she told me that if I wanted to have another baby with her I needed to lose at least 80 pounds before she’d take me as a patient again.⁣
⁣
I felt like my body betrayed me. ⁣
⁣
It betrayed me with disease, with miscarriages, still birth, emergency cesareans when I had planned for natural births, rashes, uncontrollable sweating, not fitting into a single piece of clothing at Target and irregular cycles... I could go on.⁣
⁣
It sounds sad when you put it all together like that but I wasn’t sad, well, sometimes I was sad— but it wasn’t part of my character. ⁣
⁣
I spent years trying to escape myself when what I really needed to do was befriend myself. Have enough respect for her to learn how to care for her— because I really didn’t know. And then have enough patience and trust in the new behaviors I was creating to stick with them, even when I wasn’t seeing change fast enough. ⁣
⁣
When I embarked on this health journey in 2017, it wasn’t for weight loss, that was just a happy accident. ⁣
⁣
I was in heavy pursuit of befriending my long neglected body. I knew that if I could find it within myself to care for her she’d have the tools to take care of me.⁣
⁣
And that is exactly what happened.
I love making plant based yogurts! They ferment di I love making plant based yogurts! They ferment differently than dairy based yogurts and need the help of gelatin and a refrigerator to reach true yogurt consistency.⁣
⁣
I have a recipe for Coconut Milk Yogurt on the website (instantloss.com) that is absolutely fabulous but buying canned coconut milk can get pricey. For Budget I developed a recipe using Oat Milk! It’s a tangy greek yogurt style yogurt— add berries, dried fruit, coconut flakes and a little bit of honey and you have an awesome treat! OR use it to make the gluten-free Everything Bagels! ⁣
