Grain Free Vegan Pasta
This homemade Grain Free, Vegan Pasta tastes just like the real thing! We love to eat this tossed with basil pesto, spaghetti sauce, or my Zucchini Basilico. Sometimes we go really simple and drizzle with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, top with sun dried tomatoes, asparagus and parsley or basil, yum!
If your kids are anything like mine, they can be picky eater’s so when it comes to picking healthy meals, sometimes dinner can be complicated. This is a healthy vegan and grain free homemade pasta that my kiddos absolutely love.
They love being able to see Mom make the pasta and from time to time, I will involve them in making the pasta, so that they feel like they contributed something to dinner. This is a recipe that only has a few ingredients and cleanup is a total breeze.

Homemade Grain Free Vegan Pasta
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Chia Seeds
- 6 tbsp Warm Water
- 1 3/4 cup Chickpea Flour
Instructions
- Combine chia seeds and water and let sit for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes gelatinous.
- Pile chickpea flour on a clean dry surface and make a well in the middle.
- When the chia mixture has gelled place it inside the well and begin working it into the flour. At first it will seem like you have far too much flour but just keep working with it until it's all incorporated.
- Using your pasta maker, or a rolling pin, turn dough out into long sheets. I take small palm fulls of dough and rework mine over and over in my pasta roller. I roll it through on the lowest setting gradually working up to a three, folding it in half and putting it through over and over until I have the consistency I like.
- Using your pasta roller, roll pasta through the blades. If you do not have a pasta roller you can make your own cuts with a knife.
- To cook, drop pasta into rapidly boiling water. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until all pasta is cooked through. Keep a close eye on it, because it’ll overcook quickly. Drain and serve!
Can this be made ahead and freeze it or dry it or do you need to cook it right away
You can make them ahead and freeze. 🙂
I’ve tried various wheat-free pasta replacements and frankly they all taste terrible or have a weird grainy consistency. what does this really taste like?
It tastes like regular pasta to me. My husband said that if I hadn’t told him it was grain free before he ate it he wouldn’t have known. 🙂
Is that because it’s homemade? I use chickpea pasta at home. I like it, but I’m betting this is even yummier!
So do these have “carbs”. Looking fo ra almost carb free solution. tried the tofu noodles and didn’t reall like them
Definitely not a carb free pasta. Sorry about that.
The recipe states “makes almost one pound of pasta” is that cooked? or before it is cooked?
It worked! And it works up like regular pasta, so happy! Thanks!
Do you make your own chickpea flour?
I would love to see a video of you making this.
Hi! Could I use an egg if I don’t need it to be vegan as a workaround (so I don’t have to do the chia seed step)?
Yes you could use an egg. 1 Tablespoon chia seeds mixed with 3 Tablespoons water is equivalent to 1 egg. 🙂
Can I use any other grain-free flour for this? I’m trying to avoid legumes. Thank you!
I don’t have a one to one substitution for it, sorry.
Can this be used to make ravioli? Wondering g if it will break with holes like my other gf dough I make.
