I’m Brittany and Instant Loss is my little corner of the internet. Instant Loss was founded in April 2017 after I was encouraged by a group of 200,000 total strangers on the internet to start a blog, but I’m getting ahead of myself.
I grew up in a very busy household, the oldest of seven kids, with a full time working mother. If it was frozen, microwaveable, fast, and processed, we ate it.
I was a conditioned picky eater. We ate a lot of macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets with french fries. On the rare occasion healthier options were available I’d decline. I’d say I didn’t like it but really I just didn’t know it, healthy food was foreign to me.
By the time I was in middle school I was noticeably overweight and by the end of high school I was over 200 pounds. I’m only 5’2 3/4 so that’s a lot for me.
I met my amazing husband when I was 20. He’s the one who introduced me to eating clean and unprocessed but I didn’t convert right away. Honestly, I thought he was a little bit wacky with his organic produce and whole grain bread. He’s one in ten billion though, he never pressured me, never tried to change me, just gently encouraged me to not eat chicken nuggets and french fries for every meal.
After we had our first baby I hit 260 pounds, I knew that my diet sucked but it was hard to stick to anything with 25+ years of poor choices and bad habits under my belt. I tried counting calories, juice fasting, paleo, Whole30, Weight Watchers, and everything in between. It all worked for a time but I always ended up falling off the wagon and gaining it all back. I was addicted to processed food and sugar and I didn’t know how to kick my habit.
In January 2017 I issued myself a personal challenge. I decided to make all of our meals at home for an entire year and stop eating out. This time I was armed with knowledge about food and about myself. Failing so many times taught me exactly what I needed to do to succeed. I needed to shift my thinking. This wasn’t a short term diet, I needed to makeover my entire way of eating, forever.
You’ve heard it said a million times, it’s not a diet it’s a lifestyle. Well, it’s true. This ain’t no short term gig, Jenny. If this is gonna work you’ve got to commit.
I figured if I ate real food that came from the earth in modest portions I’d be alright. No counting, no tracking, no crazy diets. Just eating real food.
So in January 2017 I started. Within the month I’d lost 19 pounds, at the end of three months I’d lost 46 pounds, and by the end of the year I’d lost 125 pounds!
Armed with handy kitchen gadgets that made cooking at home easier like my Instant Pot and my Vitamix I got cooking. I literally cooked the weight away! No gym memberships or formal exercise just eating food from the earth prepared in my kitchen.
Back to that 200,000 member FB group. I randomly decided to share my story in a Facebook group one day and it went mini viral. Everyone wanted to know what my recipes were and what I was eating. I started my own Facebook Group just to get the friend requests to stop and within 24 hours we had over 20,000 people join! I quickly discovered that sharing recipes on Facebook was not efficient, so InstantLoss.com was born. Now I develop recipes that help people get healthy! I am the author of three best selling cookbooks! Instant Loss Cookbook , Instant Loss Eat Real, Lose Weight, and Instant Loss On a Budget which all contain over 125 recipes just like those my family and I ate while I was losing weight. So to all of you who are just joining us, welcome! I’m so glad to have you here and I hope that Instant Loss can provide you with a little bit of community, a little bit of inspiration, and a lot of yummy food! 💜
