Meal Replacement Collagen Smoothie

This Meal Replacement Collagen Smoothie is a smoothie that doesn’t just taste good, but it’s good for you also.

Did you know that collagen is the most abundant type of protein in our bodies? It gives our skin elasticity, aids in joint strength, and reduces cellulite and stretch marks. It also boosts our metabolism and helps break down proteins to soothe the gut’s lining, healing damaged cell walls and infusing it with amino acids. The benefits of adding collagen into your diet are abundant.

It is also an excellent source of protein. I love to add it to my smoothies along with a healthy fat to create a meal that keeps me feeling fuller longer. I also like to add it to the blender muffins I make for my children.

My daughter has Rheumatoid Arthritis and collagen has been known to reduce joint pain and degeneration. Researchers at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston found that supplementing with collagen helped patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis find relief from painful symptoms by decreasing swelling in tender joints.

{My sweet babe during a flare.}

Suffice to say we like our collagen over here and this is one of our favorite smoothie recipes!

  1. Brittany, So sorry for your sweet little girl. What a horrible disease she has to suffer. So glad she has you for her Mom. I know you will do everything you can to help her! God bless !

  2. I just found your blog through the IP group on Facebook. Do you have nutritional information for your recipes? Thanks.

  3. Can you tell us more about why you recommend that brand or kind of collagen peptide? I understand the importance of it being water soluable, given that I too would want to put it in my cold smoothies. Does it get a little gelatinous in the smoothie? I’m really curious to try it but I also want to know how it impacts the texture of a smoothie. 🙂

    1. It does not get gelatinous. It’s really just a perfect smoothie consistency. 🙂 I recommend this brand because it’s grassfed/non gmo. I also like and have used Great Lakes as well. This one is typically a little cheaper, especially if I can catch it on a Lightening Deal.

      1. I was thinking of trying Collagen peptide and read that Vital Proteins is a good brand. Have you tried it? Also where do you get your information? Theres so much and I get confused as to which might be better.

    1. I make my own. There are brands of Almond Milk with no added sugar (Kirkland and Trader Joes) have one. We have to stay away from tetra packs of Almond Milk because of the unmethlayted B vitamins. 🙂

  4. There’s a drink that ThePaleoSecret website lists that might greatly help your daughter’s rheumatoid arthritis. You make a turmeric paste and then cook it with coconut milk and fresh ginger/black peppercorns – supposedly great for any type of inflammation.

    1. Liz, thank you for thinking about her. We’ve tried turmeric tea before, it didn’t seem to help much, but I will look into that! I’m always willing to try anything!

  5. This is good I have to add a little more fruit or I can really taste the spinach but it keeps me full for a few hours!

  6. Is the vanilla almond milk unsweetened? I don’t think my blender will work well enough to make it homemade. I believe Silk makes an unsweetened almond milk.

  7. This is my favorite smoothie of your recipes. I like to add a good handful of kale into it as well and then about 6-8 red grapes to offset the flavor the kale gives it. I could have this for breakfast everyday! I drink it several times a week!

  8. I think it is great to post info about children with issues like this..thank you for every little scrap! Also, I’m assuming you looked into everything under the sun, but just in case, i’ll mention- make sure you find a Lyme Literature doctor (LLMD) and get a proper lyme test! Your normal doctor, by law, cannot get an accurate lyme test done, so even if she has tested negative for lyme before, it doesn’t count if it wasn’t sent to a proper lyme testing lab- which your LLMD would know about! It’s easy and probably about under $500 in cost!

    1. Hi Phat, Thank you so much for recommending that. We actually had it done with a functional medicine doctor and she got the all clear. She does still have an active virus in her system called CMV that they think may be triggering her disease. We’re working on building up her immune system to fight it off.

  9. I just found and love your site 🙂 Would thins be something we could daily as a breakfast replacement? I am a teacher and things are hectic in the am and this seems to be fast, delicious and healthy 🙂

  10. Finally got around to making this. It’s delicious! I added a whole banana because I keep forgetting to freeze them in halves. A whole banana and the added coconut oil made it a bit heavy in calories, but i won’t need a morning snack since this is so filling. I have joint issues, so I plan on making this regularly to see if it helps. Thanks!

  11. 5 stars
I stumbled on to your site and now it is my go-to for recipes! Love this smoothie! I followed your original recipe, but didn’t care for the coconut oil. So, I replaced it with avocado for a healthy oil. I didn’t realize the benefits of collagen peptides. This is my breakfast now, keeps me full from 7 till 1030 or 11!! Thanks Brittany!

    1. Hi Jacqui,
Thanks so much for reaching out! I am not a dietitian or a nutritionist so I would definitely recommend you talk to your doctor about that. Wishing you all the best!
